I heard a snippet of this tune on the radio and wondered if anybody knew of it. Can anybody help with an abc or midi please?
The hey is a dance manouever in English dancing.

There is a shepherd’s hey tune here

Finally, there is a piece by Percy Grainger called Shepherd’s Hey. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. There’s a sample of the music to Grainger’s Hey. The music is really tiny but it looks like it’s based on that tune above.

Thanks. Somebody also sent me this one and it will make a lovely duet. Daughter on flute and me with a C whistle. http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Classroom/4162/music.htm
It’s the same tune again but the MIDI has more parts added. Good luck.

It’s one of the first tunes I learned on the whistle, and ironically, one I’m having to brush up on for the Morris troupe (it’s a very popular Morris tune). ABC I can’t do, but I could arrange the sheet music, if that would help.

I have a version of it here in midi, sheet music, and mp3 format (thought he mp3 was recorded years ago) http://www.tinwhistler.com/music/songname.asp?sort=s
Thank you everybody. It’s a lovely tune. We have turned it into a round. Lifeforms playing the flute and me the descant recorder. I’m hoping the guy who plays the psaltery will do a third part.
Shepard’s Hey is a morris dance tune- Percy Grainger collected it on one of his many collecting expeditions and arranged it for several different musical ensembles…the most well known of them being the one he did for band…it’s a brilliant arrangement, worth trying to find if you really like the tune (and even if you don’t normally listen to concert band recordings). And the band arrangement is paired with Percy’s arrangement of Irish tune from County Derry (Danny Boy), which is truely spine tingling…(and I normally don’t care for the tune because it’s been soooo overdone)
