SharePod allows you to manually manage files, bypassing any iPod limitations, so you can–for instance–connect to ANY computer to upload or download files.
It’s an .exe you install to your iPod drive and run from there, so you don’t have to install software on any computer you’re connecting to.
I understand the latest version has some kind of media player, but that’s not intended to be it’s purpose; you still play music or video using iTunes. SharePod does file management and dbase manipulation.
Looks pretty solid, so far. It’s written by some guy in New Zealand. I like it. I hate feeling pushed around by my computer, and I’m discovering that Apple is even worse than MS when it comes limiting choice to what THEY think I should want to do. Grr!
I’ve no idea how it handles DRM or encryption; all of my music is uploaded from CD or vinyl I recorded with audacity, a turntable & a preamp.
Do you know if it, by any chance, can download files from an iPod? I’ve got all my mp3s on a hard drive that’s on it’s last legs. I’ll need to find a good way to transfer to a new computer soon.
Yes, it’s supposed to be able to do that. I just installed it yesterday, so that’s not a thing I’ve tried, but I believe that’s it’s intended purpose.
Again, if these are DRMed trax from the apple store, I have no idea if they’ll work on another system, but you should be able to get them off and check them in to another iPod’s dbase, or vice versa.
