Paging Geek Oracle: iPod/iTunes

I have an iPod classic with a lot of music on it, but which I haven’t used for awhile. I’ve also not connected it to iTunes in a couple of years. In the meantime, I replaced the computer I synced it to and so there’s a good bit of music on the iPod I don’t have anywhere else. If I lost it, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but still.

In the meantime, I have my main computer, and there’s also a good bit of music in the iTunes library, but it’s not the same music that’s on the iPod. What I want to do is merge the music. I want to get the music that’s on the iPod into iTunes on my current computer, but I don’t want to lose the music I’ve since added to iTunes on my computer.

Can someone guide me through the process?

Sharepod will enable you to bypass iTunes and import or export files from an iPod. I’m not sure how it’ll cope with encrypted files, if you have any, but it won’t cost anything to find out. It’s neat little program. You create a folder on the iPod and stick the sharepod executable there, and then you can plug into any computer and run it from that computer. After that, it’s drag & drop.

When I replaced my PC, I used this to get the music from my iPod Touch into my new computer’s iTunes:

Worked like a charm.
