Scary photo of Seattle Pipers' Club, early 1980s

“Go back to Scotland!” “Get a haircut!” Like the photo of Pat McNulty this is newly posted by the Irish Traditional Music Archive.

Denis Brooks is the folically challenged chap, and I do believe that’s Sir Rod Margason in the coat playing the bones, apparently they wouldn’t let him put on the pipes for some reason. :tomato: Think that’s Bill Heaton between them. Beats me about the rest. Those mentioned will perhaps get a kick out of this, or maybe they’ll want to puke. :really:

That’s Todd Denman on the right. Classic shot!

Patrick

I wondered if that wasn’t the Todd monster. They tell me he was “forcibly ejected” from the club at some point. Creative differences, ya know? :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe that is Howard Stoppelmann between Brooks and Denman. Haven’t seen him in years. His father just passed RIP.

That’s Denny Hall directly in front of Brooks.

By the bye, Heaton had a chanter by Pat McNulty, complete with aluminium keys. . .

The cross legged seated piper is Walter Connelly. Wonder if Sean is playing that lovely Hughes & McLeod set?

Yes those are the guys exactly as they were when I first met them at a San Francisco tionol around 1980.

There’s a photo floating around of one of those early Bay Area gatherings.

I used to have McNulty regs - the caps had a “CN Tower” profile, really bright white plastic. Almost every keyblock had snapped off and been glued back in place. Funnnnnnky. They did work fairly well though.

There are a good few shots of the early SF club, the Seattle one not so much. Bad lighting, perhaps? It’s funny that the ITMA would use Rod as a historic graphic representation of Irish music too. Thanks for all the IDs - I’ve only met most of these chaps once or twice over the years.

The guy whose head is in front of D. Brooks’ chest is Phil White. I think they are now all identified.

Gotta disagree, Ted. That is Denny Hall. Wrong glasses and too narrow a face for Phi. I believe Phil didn’t get to Seattle until well after this event. . .in fact until after after his marriage. I cannot, however, recall a name for the gent on the end, next to Denny.

Bob

Right you are!

There are many tales yet to be told from this era. . .but I’m afraid they’ll have to wait for the Statute of Limitations to expire. . .
