San Francisco Tionol Whistle Workshop

Well, it’s definite!

There will be a beginning/ intermediate whistle workshop held at the Pipers Club Tionol on Sunday, February 20th. The main instructor will be Michael McGowan of Co. Mayo, who comes highly recommended by local musicians. The location will be in the North Oakland/ South Berkeley area near the Claremont hotel. (When you register you will be sent a map).

The fee will be $30 for the day, which will include an invitation to other Tionol activities such as the Friday and Saturday night parties (in the same area), and the proceeds will benefit the SF Pipers Club. Michael Burke will also be in attendance with whistles available for purchase.

We are trying to keep the class to a small size, so pre-register to reserve your space! See the website below for registration information.

Looking forward to seeing some of you there!

Justine

P.S. There will also be a flute workshop on Saturday the 19th, instructor still TBD.

Just made out my check. Goes in the mail tomorrow.

What’s the ‘recital’ mentioned on the site for Saturday afternoon? I didn’t see details on the site.
Tony

Hi Tony,

I don’t know if they always end up getting to the recitals, it sort of depends on how things go, but the idea is for some of the attendees to get up and play a tune or two for everyone. Sort of an “open mike” for the musicians. So anyone who wants to play can get up and do so…

Looking forward to seeing you there; should be a great time.

Justine

Justine, what are some of the other activities going on? Like sessions and things of that nature? Do I have to pay to attend those? I know I could use a lesson or two or three but I don’t think it would be nice for me (or for the teacher) to hop in a class with beginners/novices. So basically I’m asking if I can attend the sessions, party’s, recitals and things of that nature without being registered?

Hi Jack,

Depends if you are nice to me. In the past, the sessions/ parties have been open, so I would think that would be the same this year. Again, we are trying to keep things small, though, so don’t bring a big crowd along.

Keep an eye out for the info on the flute workshop, as we’re still not sure what level it will be or who will be teaching, so you might actually benefit from it depending on who it is.

Missed you at the Bodhran last Sunday,

Justine

Jack, arent you supposed to be in Ireland right now? Lucky you, I’m sure you’ll have a good time! I wish I could show up in California for that week-end, it’s just so freakin’ far away.

That’s cool Justine. It’s still along way of yet at any rate. Let me know who the teacher is and I just might have to sign up for the flute class!

I sent you an email az.

(bump)

I know it’s still a ways off, but since I’m going out of town today I thought I’d remind the Bay Area folks about this workshop.

It’s official, by the way. The Friday night party is welcome to all, and should be a killer session.

Have a good holiday,

Justine

Beam me up, Scotty!!!

Come on over! All the cool kids will be there.

Hey, I hear you have a birthday coming up. Hang in there…it’s a tough one but you get through it.

Well, Jack isnt that cool! Wouhahaha!

If I survive my birthday, I’ll tell you all about it  Have a good time at your Tionol, and be sure to teach Jack some tunes other than polkas, he’s got enough polkas already!

Excellent. And I was also thinking that there are a lot of good restaurants down the street from the Claremont Hotel and we could all go out to lunch after the whistle workshop.
