Yikes. A. Hooty.
Yes I AM watching the American Idol finale and yes the Jordin & Ruben Studdard duet was hot, yo.

Yeah, me too. Hot yo?
(p.s. Kelly just flubbed the lyrics to Sgt. Pepper)
Taylor singing A Day in the Life…no.
Kerry singing She’s Leaving Home…ok
Ruben singing Lucy (or almost anything)…yes.
Yes. Overall, that was an unfortunate tribute.
I debated even watching the finale since Melinda Doolittle was voted off-- I really didn’t care which one won-then remembered that the best usually don’t win. Chris Daughtrey/Clay Aiken fan here.
I did eventually turn it on and Tony Benet tonight was worth it.
Now that’s an American Idol!
Definite yo.

Is it just me or did she seem rather out of it?
As for the rest, Taylor wasn’t hideous but also not great. Carrie did ok, as you said, but given that’s my favorite song on the album, I felt it could have been WAAAAAAAY better. And Ruben did pretty ok too…the whole thing was pretty psychedelic.
On another note, I was pretty psyched that Green Day was there ![]()

Yes

I really liked Taylor last year- he was different, spastic, and didn’t do all those vocal runs in every song. (a pet peeve) I still remember his version of Levon-it was great. I’m not sure the “suits” knew what to do with him.
Frankly, St. Peppers on American Idol was not a good idea. No, no, no.
On another note, I was pretty psyched that Green Day was there
I was impressed. They did a good job of it.
Carrie Underwood doing the Pretenders was as bad as the St. Peppers stuff. Yes, I realize that sometimes a known tune can be completely turned upside down, re-arranged and be good. But not this.
She’s a country singer- why not do that?
I am a big fan of the show. I thought the finale show was good. The season overall, not so good. This year’s contestants were so-so. The Howard Stern/Sanjaya fiasco made it worse. I remind myself that it is like this almost every year. That some less talented singer gets advanced on sympathy votes or regional votes. That near the end, someone who many feel is the top singer in the competition gets voted off.
It is a major coup that the show got rights to perform Sgt. Pepper. The producers have been trying for years to negotiate the rights to perform Beatles songs. I wonder if the contestants will be able to choose those songs to perform next year. This year there were no Beatles songs for British Invasion week, and I have to believe it was because the show could not negotiate the rights.
I was disappointed that Fantasia Barino could not, or would not find time in her busy Broadway rehearsal schedule to perform. The judges rate Fantasia number one of all the winners.
Despite it flaws and the shallowing of the talent pool, it is still a good show. People such as Jordan or Blake would never have been given any chance by a major record company, never would have had the persistance needed to knock down the door to get in and get started.
When criticizing the performances, keep in mind it is a live. Many folks listen to so much of the over edited, over refined stuff that is on CD, the radio and Internet, they forget how difficult it is to knock it out of the park, in one take, live, with all the pressure on.
