American Idol

It is reported there were 65,000,000 votes cast for American Idol. There were 36,117,978 votes cast in the 2000 American presidential primaries. After factoring in the multivoters (from both polls) we are faced with the implications.

Looks like people might actually be more interested in music than politics. :astonished:

I’d go a bit further and say ā€œentertainment than politicsā€ā€¦smacks a bit of Roman Empire, doesn’t it? Bread and circuses…

Hardly surprising. With music, you hear what is there. With politics, you mostly hear a pack of damned lies.

Of course there are some things you could take from AI to improve political voting:

1> Allow voting by phone;
2> Allow voting by text messaging;
3> Allow multiple votes by any person (no, wait, Chicago already does that).

I give you Milli Vanilli. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am of the opinion that people are far more interested in useless formula television (AI’s entertaining?..hardly) than in the presidential elections…hmmm, actually, that doesn’t seem too bad. :open_mouth:

Heh heh… you posted it while I was mulling around whether or not to.

Then there’s the fact that many or most of the AI voters are under 18 and unable to vote in political elections, much less vote multiple times.

…it’s a sad state of affairs. I would usually be glad to see such a turn out of voting for a music program, but alas, we’re only talking about American Idol: mindless, reality-TV babble. Folks just need to turn their televisions off in the first place. Read, go outside, learn an istrument, paint, create…something other than watch TV!!! :boggle:
So, c’mon folks get off yer asses and go vote this coming election.

…as long as it ain’t for Bush :wink:

I’ve honestly never seen the program.

The true American idol is… Jerry Freeman!

I heard a rumor that Fox is planning a new reality show, ā€œAmerican President.ā€ Requirements are 35 years or older and born in this country. Auditions will start in 2007 with preliminary rounds to be held early in 2008 on location in New Hampshire and Iowa. Ability to raise money, make a speech, hold a press conference, learn new facts, and make coherent policy will be some of the rounds. Kissing babies and hand shaking will also be required elements.

Just imagine what AI judge Simon Cowell would do to Kerry and Bush. ā€œYou are absolutely horrid, you change your policy from one paragraph to the next and you do it repeatedly. Pack your bags, you are leaving this week.ā€ ā€œYou can not complete a sentence without mispronouncing a three-syllable word, you are lucky that Texas is a populous state and you have a famous name.ā€

Bill, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea if only they could get better contestants.
