AHHHH - My EARS!!!!!

First - I love the Beach Boys. I’ve seen them multitudes of times “live”. The first 45 I ever bought with my own money was “Help Me Rhonda”. I thought Dennis was gorgeous.

But - I just “heard” them on the Daytona 500. OHMYGAWD. Brian, yes, at one time, you were a musical genius. But, please, SHUT UP! Go back to your room!! Mike, you are no longer 20. You just can’t hit those high notes anymore!

God, I feel old!

I saw a TV thing awhile back with Crosby Stills & Nash. They did “Suite Judy Blue Eyes.” It was horrible. I’m suprised Crosby didn’t come out with a walker. Nothing against getting old, just against people trying to sing like “they used to” if they can’t.

I used to be able to sing 3 octaves without falsetto. Now I’m lucky to do 2.

Brian Wilson was over here recently and one of the gigs was televised - or maybe it was broadcast very shortly after - and the guy was pretty frail and the high notes were very much out of reach. Great to see him though, sure there’s none of us gettin’ any younger anyway.
About a year ago I saw Dylan and halfway through the first line of the first song - Maggies Farm - I thought that the great man was about to drop down dead before my very eyes.Pencil thin, voice absolutely gone to pieces and no longer able to play guitar due to serious arthritis trouble. His band would out rock anybody on the planet and he used electric piano like a percussive instrument .He was even struggling for wind on the harmonica breaks but played his ass off for two hours solid.Awesome.
Grappelli was swinging into his eighties and Keith Richards is still one of the greatest rhythm players around.
A 75 year old chain smoking hard drinking ex navvy said to me recently at the funeral of a much younger clean living friend of ours “Luck of the draw davey..it’s the luck of the draw..”

Makes me wonder sometimes…

About 20 years ago a friend of mine saw the Beach Boys on the Mall on 4th of July. He thought there was something bizarre about a bunch of 40-somethings singing “Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older.”

How could you tell?

I can lip read… :stuck_out_tongue:

…blasphemy..blasphemy i tell ye..damm philistines…ack…

Yeah, I saw Brian Wilson before the race too - it was PAINFUL. :astonished: Like the BAD American Idol auditions. It’s giving me the shivers just thinking about it. I guess the good thing was you know he wasn’t lip-synching!

It was a good race, though, even though my driver blew up (well, his engine, that is).
