The sheer power of political song at it's best

I found this waiting in my email this morning…

The sheer power of political song at it’s best

Cheers,
David

P.S. Not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach

Lee Hays must be rolling over in his compost pile.

Great stuff.

Back in the sixties, when we’d see stuff like that on TV (there was lots of it) we’d always cringe.

It makes me wonder what you consider the recording that has wandered the furthest from it’s roots in an effort of create someone’s vision of safe mainstream music.

Years ago, when cds first became widely available, I saw an ad (TV?) for a Willie Nelson’s greatest hits. I bought it. It was 2 cds and most of the songs from his Red-Headed Stranger period. Someone had added 1001 strings. Very weird

That was really funny. Kinda made my day in a very weird way.

Oh, dear!

American culture!

Oh… Oh my. That’s incredible. The choreography was the best part!
I wonder if Debbie Reynolds and the Solid White Dancers have ever
done The MTA Song?

To cross post… “Arrrrgh!” Something is just so wrong about that rendition. :boggle:

Well… that takes care of being hungry… yug!

It’s kind of like the recent (a year or two past) use of a great social commentary song’s tune for an auto ad… absolutely contradictory to the original intent of the song… I’ll think of it … shortly… eventually… maybe… but it was jaw-dropping to hear that melody in use for such a consumption oriented product.

I got as far as “If…” Couldn’t bear it.

Sorry Debby.

Except for the “great social commentary song” part, I thought you
may have meant Jewel’s tongue-in-cheek anti-consumerism song
“Intuition” being used in a commercial for a razor by the same name…
I thought that was funny.

Relax. It isn’t.

Whew!

…and I thought it was one of those oxymoron!

Oh, my, I’d forgotten about that… yikes…

a bit different version

Yikes! Who taught those poor women to move?
The stuffed animals in the foreground look more lifelike.
Keiko looks like her piano bench is electrified.

Wow! This video is like a fast forward a couple decades to what my life will be like when my kids put me in a convalescent home.
Once a month children like these young ladies will be brought in to entertain us with what they think was the music of our youth

and we’ll just sit there with the facial expression of a stunned monkey on our faces.

In anticipation of more “hammer” videos, a little light astringent to cleanse the palate…

Vanilla Mood… suitable for elevators from Aaberdeen to Yokosuka.

If you’re lucky.

I got in some practice with that expression last Friday evening. We’re having a World Music festival in Chicago and last friday evening I saw a band from Tuva throat sing other peoples’ hits like “Inagodadavida” and “Playing With Fire”.

We cut out before they came out to do an encore but caught it on the radio while driving home. The radio broadcast was tons better than the live performance.
Bad mix?
It must not be easy to work the sound board when the singer is hitting two notes at the same time.

I’ve certainly heard a lot worse. Yeah, they’re a little wooden but they have nice tone some interesting scale runs, good timing and not bad arranging. Their rendition of The Pink Panther Theme sounded nice.

But still elevator music.
