I was actually referring to getting in trouble with Dale again. I type faster than I think, sometimes, which isn’t saying I type fast as much as that I think slowly.
I edited it out because I realised it was in fact wrong for me to say and not funny at all. I sometimes have a tendency to be a smart ass and too sassy for my own (or anybody else’s) good. I am eternally working on it, it seems.
I am sorry. Of course your say matters, no matter what state you’re from.
Wrong, Cranberry! It was funny! So was the Kentucky jibe ( I lived there many moons ago). I would have been howling with laughter had it gotten personal enough to include Franklin County Massachusetts! I would have put “Gloucester” but I haven’t been here long enough to justify any self depreciation humor for living in this part of Cape Ann.
No, what the precedent has shown us is everyone needs to make their own decisions while they can, and to make sure that they do it correctly so that those wishes may be carried out.
As for the terms, they are not lawerly techno-babble in this case. “PVS” and “brain dead” are actual medical terms with specific definitions.

What I see now is the silent hand of the spook corporate-govt complex trying to smooth it all over now. Get back to work, consumption and yer Prozac and forget about it. And don’t forget to toss an insult to those who remain concerned about whether an injustice took place.[/quote]
Oh sure, it’s only the side that you aren’t on that has tossed out insults in all this, right? Both sides have been of equal blame.
I don’t get this about Michael, either. He could have walked away from her a long time ago and gotten a divorce. That would have been the easy thing to do, and at his young age, not unexpected. Yeah, it may not be cool that he had a girlfriend and kids while Teri was still alive, but I think many would have done the same, or taken the even easier way out. He chose to stay involved. Why??? Could it be that he reallly did love his wife and wanted to make certain that her wishes were carried out? His suffering would have been a hell of a lot less if he had chucked it all, rather than go the route he has.
None of us know his real motivation, but for the side supporting her parents to be so vicious towards him is simply ridiculous and cruel.
That is true and I find it horrible that people cannot be treated in the same compassionate manner.
And I agree with TomB that the best thing is to get your wishes down on paper so there is so doubt about what you want to have done. If you want to linger on for 15 years without the use of your cerebral cortex, make sure you have that written down. If you want to go when your cerebral cortex goes, get that written down. Make sure everyone knows where the paper is.
I obviously speak only for myself and my husband, but our concerns with euthanasia and having the right to have our lives end as we would want them to (if circumstances permit) have nothing to do with the capitalist system, the insurance companies, the spook corporate government and any of these other inane suggestions. I am far more worried about the government keeping me alive too long than that it is trying to kill me.
I hear on the radio the following: (I’m paraphrasing)
“Michael wants to have Terri’s body cremated and sent back to Philidelphia. Her parents want to have a MASS OF CATHOLIC BURIAL and have her interred in Florida” (capitals added).
First, it’s called a MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL. Second, whether the body is cremated or not doesn’t make any difference. Where the body or ashes are interred doesn’t make any difference. You can have the Mass of Christian Burial said in Florida, Philidelphia, or each and every city in the world for that matter. YOU DON’T NEED THE ACTUAL BODY TO DO IT!
And, just so everyone understands - my dad donated his body to the University of Cincinnati Medical Department. We had NO body (we could have taken the ashes a year and a half later, we didn’t - they were interred in a common area in a local cemetary for those that donate) but we DID have a Mass of Christian Burial 3 days after he died.
But I guess stating the truth, instead of spinning the facts, would be too much for the media to accomplish…
Missy— It is really a depressing situation. Many issues are so complicated that an individual with other committments would not have much chance of getting to the bottom of them. And if we then cannot rely on journalists to help us, we are in a bad way. I suppose some news sources have a better reputation than others. I don’t read or listen to much news anymore because I get so irritated. I need to find a place I trust to get my news so that I will be a better citizen. They wouldn’t have to be right all the time, but they would have to be intelligent, willing to correct errors, and not seeking to create headlines out of every day events.
