Michael Jackson

What a sad thing. The deathwatch is all over television, awaiting announcement.

You look at the pictures of that incredibly talented and nice-looking kid and then put it up against what happened to him. I’m not sure he ever had a chance for a normal life.

Have you heard anything new? At CNN, all they’re saying is that he was rushed to the hospital.

I hate to admit that my first thought on seeing that was “what is he trying to do…upstage Farrah Fawcett?”

TMZ is already reporting he’s gone.

CNN says he’s in a coma after cardiac arrest. pretty much over.

I was jealous of him when I was a kid. I wish his family would get the help they need. And if he is still with us, him too.

LA Times now reporting the same.

Wow. I mean, wow.

Two of pop culture’s biggest icons in one day!

Local news just confirmed the death.

Regardless of the last 10 years or so of his career and personal life, most of his music was awesome.

When I worked as christmas staff in shops I longed for the time that the christmas CDs would get round to playing Jackson Five songs. They lifted my whole day and made my dance around the shop and sing along. Brilliant.

I grew up with his music. May he rest in peace.

I think his life was pretty sad. All that talent…but what a life… maybe he’s happy now..

I’ll have to admit that when I heard it , I was not surprised.

Somebody has to say it so I will. He was a very unpleasant and manipulative man who was, all in all, a bit of a waste of space. So carry on eulogising if you will.

He was more infamous than famous. Plenty of money and fame but little guidance in using it.

He was, in his time, a brilliant musician and dancer, and an electrifying performer. There’s little doubt, I think, that something was also seriously wrong with him…something that became increasingly obvious as he got older. But he wasn’t always that way.

I prefer to remember him as the man who was incredibly kind to Ryan White at a time when people with AIDS were treated as if they were filth. That’s the side of Michael Jackson that the world doesn’t seem to remember. It’s so much easier to focus on his descent into mental illness. But there was, deep in that troubled, talented soul, a person of genuine kindness…and if I were he, that’s how I’d want to be remembered.

And Ed McMahon earlier this weeks.
These things seem to come in threes.

Exactly. That’s not a waste of space.

A goodly bit of what was weird about the guy was put on him by his fans, and no small part by his detractors. It must have been hell growing up both a superstar and reviled, and especially as a black kid in a world that still put blacks behind the target on a lot of things. Though I have to say, it sure was a shock to see that the little black boy had grown up into a little white woman! LOL! I hadn’t seen him for ages, and then saw a duet between him and Paul McCartney… I couldn’t for the life of figure out who that woman was.

It was no fun being the son of his father, I gather. Particularly not being the youngest and the star of the family franchise.

I felt the guy had nowhere left to go anyway. I’m sorry that somebody younger than me died, but I feel like he used up his options. I sure don’t want to see a bunch of sappy crap on tv about him.
