Retreating from Lunacy

I think I spent too much on Blackwood a few years back when I scored a huge pile of wood originally headed for clarinets in LeBlanc’s factory. So in the next week I plan to go through the pile and set out what I intend to keep for Folk Flutes and other projects, and start listing everything else. Keep Tuned. I can use the proceeds to further other projects.

The upcoming knee replacement is seeming less daunting. I suspect I will be back in my workshop sooner rather than later - 2-3 weeks instead of 2-3 months. Am meeting with a PT person in the next few days to get a better grasp on my recovery expectations. I have a high tolerance for pain.

Well I don’t think I am going to make copies of this Rudall, Rose and Carte for sale after all. Too much work and there are other makers of such flutes out there and I’d rather not make their lives difficult. But I have something else in mind that will be unique, new, but fit into the tradition like a glove, especially if someone or someones that I know decide to like my results. I will have the first prototypes by Summer and be testing the concept this week even. No more details until release. I am still keeping that Rudall Rose and Carte so don’t ask.

Exhausted after a crazy week hanging out with Kevin Crawford, all the other crazy people in Lunasa including Cillian who just wouldn’t stop talking, Steve Jobs and Space Alien Eclipse Tourists (see www.caseyburnsflutes.com/opera.pdf ). I am going to bed after the SNL Cold Open at 11:30. Ben Stiller as Cohen…

Casey, I might be interested in buying some of your clarinet blanks, depending on what you have and the price you are asking. The dimensions seem to work well for the head, barrel and left hand section of my flutes (they are pre-bored at slightly too large a diameter to work for the foot or right hand body sections). I bought some of them when they were first up for sale, but I arrived a bit late to the party and they only had a few left. I wonder who bought them all? :poke: Anyhow, being early in my flute making career I probably shouldn’t pass up good opportunities to get nicely seasoned wood.

I’m gone for the next couple of weeks, leaving today, in fact, to cross country ski across Finland, so I probably won’t be able to reply to your post if you list what you have in the next two weeks.

Best of luck with your knee operation!

I’ll be sorting this all out for the wood around the time you get back I think.

Good luck on the knee surgery Casey!

I got a few of the roughed out pieces on eBay a while back, it is nice to have good seasoned pre-drilled sections…

Paddler, contact me by email ASAP if you want some. I may have a buyer for all that I am willing to sell, and its someone who I want to sell this wood to.
