Retailer/Source for Delrin

Hey everybody,

I may be asking this in the wrong place on the forum, but here goes. I am looking for some Delrin rod stock out of which to make fipple blocks and am overwhelmed with the number of online retailers, some of which want orders for hundreds of feet while others will only sell to commercial outfits.

Therefore, I was wondering if anyone who uses delrin for their whistles could suggest a retailer where I could get just a few feet of black delrin rod for somewhere near a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Michael

hi Michael,

There’s a number of places mentioned in this thread:

Personally I use US Plastics, but not for any particular reason other than I used to drive by it nearly every week.

Have fun!

I just got mine from Enco. I only ordered one 1/2" diam 4’ rod just to see if I’d like working with Delrin or not, and no problem with small orders from Enco. Good prices and fair shipping charges (lower than others I called), good service. I received my order the next day, but then it was shipped from Atlanta and I’m only 200 mi away in northern Alabama.

Here’s the Delrin page for the one I ordered in 1/2" diam. You can also get 8’ lengths and of course, various diameters.

Enco… 1-800-873-3626.

I usually use Enco too. YOu might find a cheaper source, but not by much . I get lathe tools etc from them and for me it’s just easier to use one source rather than several different ones.

Forgot to mention that Brewerpaul’s the one who hooked me up with Enco. My thanks to him. Got a huge Enco catalog not long after receiving my order.

I’ve ordered delrin rod from Small Parts, Inc., U.S. Plastics and McMaster-Carr. All three are easy to deal with and don’t mind sending small quantities. The shipping charges have always seemed reasonable.

I usually use US Plastics. Note: The generic for “Delrin” is “Acetal”. There is a slight difference but it does the same job on whistles.
