I really like the way you put that … “those who are religious should be given the benefit of the doubt and accorded respect for as long as they show it”
Now, call me cynical if you will, and I love Cran dearly of course, but I don’t trust Cran’s one-line summary of the PMs to necessarily be fair to what the writers said. “Don’t turn this place into a prayer group” may well have turned into “people were offended by my post.” It seems to me also that Cran has in the past on several occasions asked for advice and support, and has received it apparently without abusive PMs. My assumption was therefore that the PMs addressed her first post (permanent prayer thread) rather than his second post (asking for support).
But then again, I’ve been stunned in the past by the meanness of some PMs people send around (not to me, of course: no one sends Bloomfield nasty PMs. ).
I’m not sure I agree with your counterexample of a nude pictures thread, because I am having trouble coming up with a plausible scenario where your hypothetical photo would be a call for emotional support in a time of great stress. But perhaps I’m just not approaching it from your viewpoint, and it’s very possible I don’t understand the emotional significance of your example thread, and the reason for your reaching out. And since I don’t understand the personal significance such a gesture might have for you, I would do my best not to do anything that would trouble you or make you feel pushed away.
The point is that asking for prayers in public and taking your clothes off in public are both things that can seem like indecent exposure (depending on where you grew up).
“Eh? Know what I mean? Know what I mean? Nudge, nudge! Know what I mean? Say no more! A nod’s as good as a wink to a blind bat, I always say, I always say!”
Oh my gosh! Oh, we do support you Bloomfield. You look just grand. [PM to Bloom: Have you lost your bloomin’ mind!?!?!?!?!?] We will post our photos here too, what a wonderful idea you’ve had. You’re next, Will.
Not so fast, Cynth. My job as an ace reporter for The C&F Times is to uncover the truth wherever I may find it. Even if it meant kicking in the door to Bloomfield’s boudoir and snapping that photo with my trusty Polaroid. It’s a dirty business, but someone has to do it.
I especially liked the look of utter shock on Bloo’s face. Notice also how he’s discreetly hiding his rubber duckie with his other hand.
Well, I guess reporters are supposed to report the news, not make the news. We’ll be eagerly awaiting further developments in this shocking story!! locks door to boudoir and makes sure extremely vicious man-eating dogs are still hungry
Rubber duckie? Oh, poor Bloomfield. Here I thought it was modesty.
I find myself pretty well aligned, in sentiment, with Miss Nutria’s original post to this thread, though I know we can’t force people to be thoughtful.
