reed woes

Hi all!

Ok, to cut a long story sideways, I have a BIG problem with me reed. I’m based in North London and have been trying to make a decent reed for half a week now (I’m still a newby reed maker!) So I was wondering if there are any pipers in London who would be kind enough to sell me a spare, or maybe teach me a few pointers here and there for reed making, before this friday (have a lot of very important sessions/gigs this weekend I can’t turn down).

Any help/advice/knowledge or anything else would be massively appreciated!!

Cheers

the only person i can think of is brendan mcauley - i think he’s based in wimbledon

Pat Stones, Luton or ring/email Brian Howard, Sheffield

Brian Howard’s site: http://www.howardmusic.co.uk/shop/uilleann%20pipes/reeds.htm … Or Martin Gallen http://www.banbadesign.co.uk , maybe?

Alan Burton in Bath http://www.reedshaman.co.uk/reeds/about.html
Allan Moller in Wales http://www.uilleannreeds.co.uk/
http://www.londonpipers.co.uk/ (some of the pipermakers info is out of date)

Who made the chanter.

What is the problem with the reed.

Alan Burton is now in Cornwall

Alan Burton is now in Cornwall

Yes Cornwall not Bath.

I usually send him emails for reeds with reed dimensions for my Rogge chanters and once for my Kennedy chanter (I get reeds in post without posting chanter). I adjust reeds I get in post to suit chanter.

I did once or twice send my Rogge B chanter and my Pat Stones D narrow chanter to him to reed when he once lived in Bath.

Thanks a million for all the feedback

Ferg to answer your question the chanter is made by Marc Van Daal, lovely little thing, but the reeds I’ve been making haven’t been good enough because I think I’m just making school boy errors. Though I’m getting my head down and doing my homework, I don’t think I’ll be able to make one until Friday. Thanks for all the contact details as well, I’ll give them a ring and see what I can find.
