RE: Australia

Is there an Aussie pipers club?

Pat Sky

No there isn’t a formal one as I can tell. Although I have tried in the past to get some interest in the idea. I think the problem is distance.

As fare as I’m aware there is a Perth club (in Western Australia). I believe they still have a website. There is a Melbourne gathering about once a week at the Comhaltas Venue. The contact details for that are on the international Comhaltas website.

There are also two summer chools in Australia. One being the Celtic Summer School (http://www.celt.com.au/summer.html#lyons) just outside of Melbourne. I’ve personally never been however I am told that it is good. The uilleann pipe teacher at this event is Patrick Lyons.

The other well known school is the Koroit Lake School (http://lakeschool.bushwahzee.com/). Jack Brennan is the Uilleann Pipe teacher. I have contacts for all the above Pat if your interested, PM me.

How about teachers in or near Sydney? I’m moving there in April, and after a year in Dublin, at NPU & the Seamus Ennis Centre, would really like to keep it up. If I have to learn from the telly then so be it, but real teachers are the best.

Feel free to contact me off list if you like… my email is my username.
