Rathlin Island/Sporting Paddy - What Key??

Hi,

I’ve just found this forum and Im simply amazed! Chiff & Fipple is a one stop shop for all things IrishTrad!!
I was looking for a trad music shop in London (The Irish girl in me was starting to long for a good shop) online and came across the site - simply brilliant!

I generally play Susato whistles, hoping to get a Cheiftan Low D soon though!

Im just wondering,

Does anyone know, what key Kevin Crawford plays Rathlin Island/Sporting Paddy in?

You can see him playing it live here:

Thanks very much.

He plays it on a Susato C Whistle.

Cool, Thanks.

Also wondering if where I can get the basic music for this tune?

I have actually worked out the first wee trill of notes that Crawford plays starting the tune, but I cant get the rest by ear just at the moment.

The basic notation would really help.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

fantastic, thanks Kenny.

I need to hear the tune too, so its great to be able to read the different variations and then go back to hearing it on the CD.

On the bit that says ABC,

This is displayed:

|:e2 dB eAAB|e2 dB AGBd|e2 dB eAAB|
|1 dged BAA2:|2 dged BAAG||
|:A3B EGBG|AGAB deed|A2 AB GABd|
|1 egdB BAAG:|2 egdB BAA2

I can work out that it is the notation on the sheet music written out in letters… but what is the 1 and 2 about?

Thanks again.

Beginning of 1st ending, beginning of 2nd ending.

The tune is in 2 parts, both 8 bars long. You play the 1st 3 bars, then the bar marked “1”. You then go back and play the 1st 3 bars again, but this time after that , you play the bar marked “2”. Gives a total of 8 bars. Same in the 2nd part. It’s just a form of shorthand, really to avoid writing out the same bars of music twice.
