My cousin Jon passed on the 13th of November, 2008. His convoy was hit by an IED in Afghanistan. He leaves behind one daughter, a wife, and his parents.
I attended the funeral in Denver. I don’t know if any of ya’ll have ever seen a mother bury her son, but it’s a painful experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I can only imagine what Aunt Linda was and is going through. Scratch that; I can’t even imagine.
Some of you may have been to a military funeral for someone killed in action. Those of you that have will know what I mean when I say that, when the first sgt did the roll call I started weeping.
Sgt Stiles…
Sgt Stiles, Jonny
Sgt Stiles, Jonny L.
Then the rifle-crack of the salute…
If it’s your thing I’d ask that you pray for my Aunt Linda, who buried her son Jon on Friday. And for his widow Launa.
He had already proven himself a hero. May his soul fly free, and may your family find the strength and courage to get through this tough time, together.
