pol o'ceallaigh

listening to the music “tri agus tri” of pol o’ceallaigh and I am wondering who is the piper
pipes with hurdy gurdy and spoons

Jimmy O’Brien Moran is the piper.
Is it on CD now? I used to have a tape, but lost it. Awesome album.

thanks
yes there is a cd although I got it digital from somebody
great music indeed
there is very limited information about this cd

The Irish Times had an article about the Kelly’s recently:

Keeping it Kelly

I’d try to contact the man himself for the CD… or see if you can meet him when he’s busking.
A great album indeed!

‘tape’ -is this an old recording?

i’ve heard of a band called scullion that jimmy was involved in but i’ve never heard anything they did

i was busking once when jimmy was walking past - i’d love to say that i was doing a dazzling version of ‘the bucks’ with every type of ornament you could name, but instead i was playing a very lukewarm version of ‘the fields of athenry’ for a tourist - i remember him listening very intently for a short while and throwing me a pound (pre-euro) and that was that

i found this
with one sample

The same listing/clip also listed here

The copy i saw was audio cassette with gorgeous sleeve-notes. Pictures of pipes and pipers, info about instruments etc.
I believe it was recorded at mid-90s, maybe not.
