Piping stories...

Hi,

I am writing to ask for a little help. I am trying to collect stories, from folklore, modern or ancient, about pipes and pipers. They may be humourous, or moralistic, or tragic, or all three. Do you know any from your country, or tradition, that you would share with me?

You could post them here, or get in touch direct daverowlands@ntlworld.com

Many thanks,

Dave R

Dave:

Start by reading chapters of O’Neill’s books - there’s more than enough there to occupy you (hundreds of pages of text and photos, many of them revolving around pipers, pipemakers, etc.:

see especially chapters 15 through 23, and 31, of Irish Minstrels and Musicians, and chapter 11 of Irish Folk Music, a Fascinating Hobby.

this is a nice one

Lucky b@stard, I wish that would happen to me!!!

I ride a big, black horse. But she has done f**ck-all to improve my playing. I will need to have a talk with her about that.

Right I’m aff to the stables in about an hour and I am going to gather them altogether and give them a good talking to aboot this. They just can’t go around pipenapping and cutting oot the 21years learning curve like that.Twill give the wrang message to youngsters. :really:

don’t focus on a black horse
