It put me in mind of the Billy Connelly story - He was somewhere foreign - it might have been New York - and one of his acquaintances met another Scottish fella in the bar. Billy went off to talk to someone else and lost track of his mate. When he went into the alley, he found him beating the other guy’s head against a wall, shouting “And I’m telling you there are 97 islands in the Greek Archipelago!”
