Punching out a Bagpiper

And the people in the coffee house called it a “bum fight”! How insulting!

Others rushed to the scene from nearby Evo’s Coffee House when someone shouted “bum fight!”

“Self-professed Irishman” who “didn’t appreciate the scottish instrument”!

What an eedjit!

I like the observant1’s response. He seems like the kind of guy who would say,

“Oh, yeah! Well, I’m more modest than you are!”

Well, I don´t know - playing the bagpipe outside a public library  Is that so wise? I used to study for my exams at the public library, and would probably too attempt to silince the bagpiper to in some way, even though I really like the scottish bagpipe.

There was a similar incident in my town when some street musicians had been playing the same three tunes for days outside a local shop. The shopkeeper (normally a benevolent elderly gentleman) and his staff treathens to lynch the musicians if they didn´t leav immedately. They refused and there was fight before the advent of the police.

I dunno… he seemed to take offense at the fact it was a Scot’s instrument, not the infernal noise.

I don’t know about punching a piper, but I’ve whacked a piper’s dad. He was so intent on videoing his offspring that he was marching along with us practically trampling me. It takes a bit of room to swing my tenor mallets and after a few cautionary taps-he didn’t take the hint- I just let fly…

Just another drum corpse …

Once, long ago, I was at a Boy Scout camp in NC with my Dad. He was taking advantage of the acoustics provided by the mountains and playing his pipes. Several angry Boy Scouts gave him a hard time and held lanterns dangerously close to his pipes. He responded in his frighteningly loud baritone with several choice words and a reminder of the value of his pipes(in excess of $3000). They promptly left him alone.

Call me prejudiced if you must, but I somehow don’t think the drunken transient who committed the assault was studying for his SATs at the library that day.

I don’t think the so-called Irishman was studying history either. If so, he would’ve known that the Scots and the Irish have quite alot in common(not including their recipes for whisky).

The guy has obviously never been to a St Paddy’s Day bash either. There’s always GHB pipers playing even though they’re not technically “Irish”.

What they didn’t tell you was the fellow with pepper spray was an English man, playing concertina across the square. The Scotsman and the Irishman both went after him!

Oh if only…
