Patrick D’Arcy, Larry Dunn, and I had a great little all B session on flat sets at the annual Summer Solstice festival of traditional music, held this past weekend in Calabasas, CA.

It was a great weekend alright Michael. Allnighters both Friday and Saturday… it was really nice to get to play the B’s together and not have all those pesky wannabe pipers with their fiddles and flutes and accordions and banjo’s etc joining in

I hope he at least had the good sense to tune his bodhran to B as well.

Hey No E…think of all the gigs you’d get in December. “The Piping Santa.” I can see you now in a green S. Clause suit with shamrocks sticking out of a green top hat.
By the way, that bodhran player is one of the best I’ve heard, I think takes instruction from some of the finest players in L.A. Never caught his name. Patrick, do you know him from the L.A. scene?

I do indeed, that’s Joey Abarta. He’s borrowing a practice set from the SCUPC at the moment (our first) and he is taking lessons from me whenever time permits. He’s very into the pipes and already knows the tunes as he’s been playing bodhrán very well at sessions for years, he’s only 17 and a bright young hopeful for uilleann piping in the area in my opinion.
