Phil Hardy Does It Again!

Phil has put together some excellent Low Whistle tutorials and they are FREE!

In the past I have always bragged about the Chieftains I own and have been asked why I am such a supporter. These tutorials are just another reason why I own no other whistle but the Chieftain.

Now I have visited several other respected whistlemakers sites, but with all due respect what they have to offer in my humble opinion doesn’t hold a light to what Phil provides to whistlers on his site. What is amazing to me is that he offers the same to all whistlers whether you own a Chieftain or not. Just the other day he emailed everyone and plainly stated that the downloads where getting expensive and he may have to resort to a monthly fee. But he busted his butt and found away to keep the downloads FREE.

Is he in the business of selling his product, you bet. But he as a whistle- maker goes way beyond what the customer expects and actually what I expect from him.
For his service to whistle community he has my never dying respect and I say CHEERS to my dear friend and a long life.

Guys/Gals you owe to yourself to visit Phils site if you haven’t recently.

Click on the “Tutorials” link.

Edited to say that I, not being the most observant person it seems, missed that Keith had already posted the link. Sorry for the redundancy.

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that the redundancy isn’t as bothersome as the blasted repetition.

Most recently that would have been me asking, Keith. But I didn’t get an answer then. BTW, unless you are actually Phil Hardy, I don’t see what you have to brag about. I mean, all you or I have to do to get hold of one is fork out the money. Nothing to boast about.

What I actually asked for last time was some comparative information which explained to us why you are Phil’s cheer leader. Specifically i asked whose whistles you’ve played, not whose websites you’ve visited. I also asked what playing qualities so impressed you, qualities Phil’s whistles have but other whistles, names please, lack.

So this makes Phil’s whistles better than Overtons? Copelands? Generations? What exactly am I missing?

Mr. Wombat:

I don’t ever recall receiving a PM from you, email or post requesting the information or lack there of that you had requested form me.
let me try to address some of your issues with me.

  1. Regarding my bragging rights and the reason I “Cheerlead” in Phil’s behalf.
    a) Most popular makers sell you the whistle and thats all you get.
    b) Most makers won’t do for you unless you do for them $$$$$
    c) No other maker as far as I know from visiting their sites offer the extras: free music, free movies, etc. Well some do but it of them selfs, not of other musicians. heck if it wasn’t for Phil’s site I would never have known of such artists as Lunasa, etc.
I could continue with issue #1, but I won’t…my point has been made I beleive.

  2. Addressing Playing qualities and comparative information.
    a) I have played or owned at one time the following makers whistles, mostly in the Lows: Alba, Susato, Cheiftain, Copeland, Overton, Poe, Howard, Oaks, Waltons, Feadog, Shaw, generation. These are all gone except the Chieftain Brass. Here again I could go on, but I won’t. But when comparing the Chieftain to these I find that when you hold the Chieftain its heavier and you know you have a quality made instrument. I have yet to find a cosmetic flaw in any Chieftain I own, but I can’t say the same for the others. The sound quality is superb, once again the Chieftain Brass “Golds” that I play jsut sound better and sweeter than the other brands I have played. I can say that next to a Chieftain I would rank in second place a Overton.

  3. Most important Wombat…I didn’t mean to offend anyone especially the makers of the whistles. My favortism to Phils site and to his product is of my opinion and sometime I do share my opinion. I knew that Phil had and has in the past done more on his site than just sell his product and I wanted to accomplish two things with my post:

  4. Thank the man publically for his efforts and

  5. let others know about the site.

Could I have done it differently, probably so…would I, not a chance.

Wombat if you ever want my opinion feel free to email me, for i have slowed down on my visits to C & F and GC.

Thanks

Not just Chieftains, Wombat, Chieftain GOLDS…

I haven’t been called a kid in almost 20 years. Thanks

Yeah, that’s kind of apparent. Phil made the announcement about the tutorials over a week ago in this thread:

No problem, though, they certainly deserve regular mention (and I believe they will get it, whenever someone brings up trying a low whistle).

KD MARTIN KY
Your welcome KD Kid its all the same to me

I have finally reached CULT status…WOW…he he he.
It’s just a shame I wasn’t playing an OVERTON that would have been the finishing touch.
