Maybe it’s just me, but the F# and A vents on that chanter look HUGE.
Jeff
I enlarged the image and held my Simack chanter to the monitor and they look really close with regard to hole sizes and spacing.
The Hunter looks to have a slightly offset pattern on the first two tone holes.
Tony’
this set looks brand new for the year it was made anyone fancy
this set £300’s the bid so far.
I almost bought this set just to try a Peter Hunter chanter, but just couldn’t bring myself to bid, even at a cheap $493 USD. Can someone tell me why, and why no one else bought these? ![]()
It’s beyond me.. Peter’s stuff is great, in my experience and that bellows looks very nice.
PD.
Lorenzo,
I’m surprised this set never made at least double that price
someone know something we don’t? making a reed should
not have been to much trouble was it a half set originally or
what, the main stock ferrule was fitted on the bag. ![]()
Agreed, it’s odd that set didn’t sell.
I think eBay is all about having good pictures and no negatives in the description. Needing a reed didn’t help the cause, and the pics could have been better. No evidence of the Cnat key described either. I have an extra one (brass) that would have worked perfect, and an extra reed that would already work, and was thinking along those lines, but reading it again, I noticed a key was mentioned as included. I think I’ll email the guy and ask him if he wants to sell it off eBay. The size of those finger holes don’t bother me, I think it was the “no mounts” thing, and 1986, and the orange color that bothered me. W/o mounts, it does look pretty plain, but those can be added.
Lorenzo,
the note holes are slighly larger on Peters concert chanters
all the same it should have done much better than what it did
even with out a reed . ![]()
Hello
I have spoken to Peter reference the set on EBay, he says it was one of a a pair that he made for two guys who are freinds, the second set was made for a top piper called Wattie lees, Watties set has the full ivory livery
with rolled metalwork, both sets have C nat keys and three other key blocks fitted, I have a ten year old bag and bellows of Peter’s which are still air tight, top stuff.
I can also say its very surprising that the set never sold, a plain chanter alone like this one from P H today would itself cost much more than the sellers reserve price, maybe he might have more luck on another day.
The set was made back in 1986 for £ 225.00 Sterling, a good focusing point as to how much value a good set keeps, you never loose money, only gain, a snip at the asking price.
Of the large tone holes, this is what Peter calls a Banjo Blaster or busking stick, crisp and loud if needed, made to be heard, pipers of fame also have these chanter, McCarthy, Browne and Potts to name but a few.
Davy.
