Practice set on eBay - ended

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=308&item=936006839

This one was listed with the wrong spelling (uillean) so perhaps it got overlooked. This set belongs to a guy not far from me, and I’ve talked to him quite a bit. I’m guessing that the chanter is okay, regardless of the no-name. It may need a new reed, he’s sanded this one down so it works in a dry climate.

PS: I can forward a close-up photo of the chanter, showing finger holes, if you want one (only 13KBs).

They don’t look like any Pakistani pipes I have seen.

All the same, Caveat Emptor…

Looks like someone will be getting a nice practice set at a good price!

I know it’s difficult to identify from a pic but it is a remarkable likeness of a Kwisthout.

Alan

Wouldn’t it be funny if this ended up being one of T. Britton’s sets from his early days, and it sells for $500?

Heh..I have a T. Britton 3/4- (regs are by childress actually) set I NEVER play anymore…but I sure could use th cash…hmmmm…?

Davey, Post some pictures.
How many keys are on the chanter?

With 35 bids this auction closed out at $560.

Tony..go to the topic of “pic of yer pipes”..I already have some pics posted! page 5 or 6 I think… My britton set is the dark brown one under the apple set with the straight bass drone (my own construction)It’s “the works” by Tim…seperate a drone with key, hollow stock, bari drone has u-bend with tuning slide..as does bass drone…chanter has 3 keys, wooden top with stop key (NOT the twist style he does now)

I JUST don’t play my Britton set anymore since I started making my own…I’ve developed a sound I like better. I occasionally play his chanter…but I prefer the tone of my own drones against the ebony chanter I just finished…the apple one was too flat and I ended up throwing it in the vertical filing cabinet!
