Patrick Olwell does not make bamboo flutes anymore so these popular concert tuned flutes are hard to come by. Even Dale has endorsed them and flute & whistle players like Brian Finnegan of Flook use them.
The reason I’m letting it go is because I play the whistle and I am no Sean Egan of Solas who can play a bizillion instruments well. I want to focus on just whistles.
I bought this lovely, good as new, bamboo flute for $100. I’m letting it go for $50! Also includes a padded nylon bag.
I’m trying to figure out if Brother Conrad is adhering to the Franciscan vow of poverty here or if he truly did not know the market value of the flute.
I also inquired about the flute, mentioning that the flute was worth considerably more than the $50 asking price. However, Brother Conrad said, “I already sold it to a VERY LUCKY customer for $50! At least she’s happy and I can live with that ”
I did purchase the blackwood quena that was advertised on the new “other flute” forum, so all is not lost.
I honestly tried to find some used Olwell flutes on line to see what I should sell mine for. I couldn’t believe when Doug Tipple told me about it’s real value!
Excuse my faux pas! I actually did know Seamus Egan is of Solas (I have every one of their cds). Sean Egan was my whistle instructor and is of course of lesser fame than Seamus. Easy mistake…for me!
I used the term “other flute forum” because I couldn’t remember the name of the new “World/Folk Winds” forum. I consider an Irish flute a folk wind, just as much as a quena is a flute.
