We went to see Paddy Keenan play a small house concert on Saturday evening in Santa Cruz, California.
He was joined by guitarist, Richard Mandel of San Francisco.
Even though Paddy had a bad cold, he was in top form as usual.
This event was sponsored by the Celtic Society of Monterey. They put on many house concerts locally.
Paddy and Richard played two sets and were joined by several local musicans as well.
This was one of the last of 11 concerts on a West Coast tour for them.
Paddy mentioned that he has a new CD coming out soon. I can hardly wait to hear it.
If you have not seen Paddy in person you owe it to yourself to do so. He is a real piping treasure and a link to the Pavee style.
I saw Paddy the weekend before in Grass Valley and enjoyed his playing quite a lot. I have since listened to many of his tunes on YouTube. I was planning to focus on whistle for a second year while considering what instrument to learn next but my decision may have been made without me realizing it.
