OT sort of, Buyin CD´s

I was going to order five cd´s over at amazon.com and then saw that all of the cd´s are available at one of there retailers/suppliers www.alldirect.com . Here the cd´s are on average 6 usd cheaper than at amazon, so I was wondering why I shouldn´t order from alldirect? Anyone had any experience with the like?

Another question that I suppose only a few could answer. I want to order 3 cd´s from Southern Cross in Australia. Does anyone have any idea about what the shipping fees to Europe by air-mail could amount to?

Thankfull for any help.

After a closer look I see that alldirect doesn´t do international shipping. Oh well.

:frowning:

stepping up on the soapbox here…

Daniel, do me AND the artists a favor, and see if they have a website that you can order the CD directly from them on. It may be more expensive that way, but the artist is getting all of the payment. If you order from Amazon or another “clearinghouse” website, they take their cut first, THEN the artist gets what’s left.

I am making an honest attempt to buy CD’s directly from the artist whenever I can. With the internet, that doesn’t mean you have to wait until they come to a concert near you.

Now - I realize not all groups have websites, so this may not always be possible, but if it is, please consider it.

ok, getting down off the soapbox now…

Hi missy,

Thanks for pointing that out. I considered it, only in this case it´s “old geezer” cd´s so I guess the above mentioned might be hard to do. I may be wrong.

Daniel

shouldnt cost a fortune i am estimating about $5 - $6 aussie dollars,
the best thing to do would be to send an e-mail to the guys at celtic southern cross and ask them, they are great there and terrific ppl to deal with,
hope this helps

David

Missy is correct in her analysis of the situation. There are some jobbers that pay the artist more than Amazon…CD Baby, for one - but they are not as large…Pick your poison.

In a related issue, I find that when a CD launch is announced by individuals on the board, the amount of feedback in the form of posts, either positive or negative, usually is small. Sales may be large in the group’s home venue, but it is difficult to get things heard on a larger scale…

Rant off…
Best.

While they are right about ordering from the artist’s site, I ordered a couple cd’s from the not long ago, and it worked out fine.

I like CDBaby a lot. I could make a couple dollars extra by selling my CD directly, but in the end most of it would be offset by things like PayPal fees, cost of the padded mailer, having to actually go to the Post Office, etc. If you have a CD to sell, i strongly recommend CDBaby; they’re a small group of musicians, and understand the needs of musicians, so they’re not there to rip you off. They treat your customers well too, and it’s cheap to set up. If you don’t have a produced CD, then one of the on-demand sites like mixonic.com may be a good solution, but i haven’t used them yet.

I find that i sell most of my CDs directly, in gigs, but i just like having an Internet address i can send people to. As i said, it’s cheap, and why not?

And it’s amazing what you find just poking around cdbaby.com. Great way to waste an afternoon!
