OT - Forum Shutdown

I belong to another message Board (a Robert Crais Forum, mostly about books) which has been entirely shut down. Turns out the author in who’s name the Forum exists is suing a video game company for stealing his two most well-known characters - Elvis and Joe - the rights to whom he swears he will never sell for any purpose including movies. These characters are indeed special and have taken on a life of their own, as they represent all the best iand strongest in us somehow interwoven with all of our frailties. They run through a lengthy and continuing series of books. The author has sold the rights to a stand alone novel which is in production now with Bruce Willis, that does not include Elvis and Joe. On the day that the suit was filed, a bunch of the most vile ignorant four letter posts inundated the Forum, which is temporarily shut down.

It made me think what a relatively great place this Board is with all of its warts and what a great job is done by the administrators. I was surprised that the Forum administrators couldn’t shut out the vile posts (from newcomers) wo shutting down. I really don’t what level of vigilance and/or software is required to effectively control such first-time decidedly unwanted posts. Interesting…

PhilO
