I’m trying to figure out the logistics of getting from Donegal (Gleann Cholm Cille) to Miltown Malbay and back up to Donegal again, as I am enrolled in classes up there in the weeks preceding and follwing WW.
Is there anyone who will be traveling in that region before/after WW, and could give a lift?
I’ve been looking at the Bus Eireann schedules and it looks like a bus trip would take 12-24 hours depending on which route I go (and layovers and so forth), so I thought I’d toss this request out.
If all else fails, you might take the train from Donegal to Galway or Ennis and then catch a bus from there. At least it’d be quicker.
Now watch, some local will post to say the train doesn’t go from Donegal down to Galway or Ennis. And I really don’t know myself, but if I were doing it, I’d try that first. The train is a convenient way to travel if it goes where you need to go.
On the morning of the 13th I’m heading back to Shannon airport via Ennis. The bus from MM would take over 5 hours, and get me to the airport a “convenient” 4 hours after my plane leaves, so I’m getting a cab to Ennis at 9:30am.
Ennis is a much bigger place, buses run from there to Donegal but they still take 5 1/3 hours.
Hawk, I’m obviously not local, but there is no trian in that part of Ireland (hee hee). The bus service is good Beth, especially if you can find express service between the bigger towns (like Galway to Ennis).
What I would personally do is rent a car for 24 hours, rent it in Donegal and deposit in Ennis. I think there’s one or two local car hiring companies which have offices in both towns. But then, it’s at least 40EURO I guess.
You shouldn’t have any problems getting a lift to Ennis. I know a couple of people who’ll be going that way, but I don’t know when exactly yet. Buses are about half the price of trains anyway, but be warned if you pay in advance and then want to change your ticket you’ll lose some money.
