Is anyone here going to Meitheal this summer in Ennis? I ask because I received my packet from Gary Shannon yesterday and he’s done a great job of including some tunes we are to learn for a presentation, along with a map of Ennis, and a CD of the tunes we’re to learn
The CD has the tunes to learn along with a slower version of the tune as well. However, many of the tunes Im not that familiar with and some of them are recorded by a fiddler or box player in another key. Glad that he sent the material. Im guessing that the material we are learning will be different from that of which our tutors will be working us on. Any ideas?
Also, what are most people wearing these days on the West Coast of Clare? Should it get much cooler in mid-July? Im guessing long sleeves do need to be brought definately.
should I send Matt Molloy and Jean-Michel Veillon and Brian Finnegan and Stephen Preston some notes of tunes to learn ready for the Malvern Flute Festival next summer ?
Okay, it breaks my heart as I THOUGHT I was going, but …
(with a proud sigh) … I’ll do the big thing. (Or else just live vicariously.) Why don’t you tell us the names of some of the tunes, and maybe we can query our collective memory banks and suggest some alternative recordings of same? I’ve found that sometimes a different context can help, and you might even find a version or two in another key.
???
cat.
P.S. I wonder if the box player is Sharon? Naaaahhhh, she wouldn’t … would she?
I spent a whole day once with Kevin Crawford in Ennis waiting for my lift to Milltown .It wasn’t easy then .Perhaps they have bicycle rental shops now !.They seem to have everything else .
Or hitch . If they don’t close the pubs you could stay there .
Actually, biking’s exactly what my sweetie did the first time he went to Willie Week a few years ago. Ah, us innocents abroad.
Anyway, I doubt I would find such interesting people at bus stops here … but I believe I recall a bus or two running on Sunday (roughly every 5 hours sound right?), and suspect you might also be able to catch a lift here & there … Finally, ask Gary. We were originally planning to do the “adult B&B” option (sounds like a movie in the special section at the video store!), but it sounded like transport was arrangeable in that case …
