Is anyone going to the Ennis festival?

I’m thinking of going. First time in Ireland actually

I might go, too. First time in Ennis then…

Wish I could go back for the festival, but my wife and I just passed through Ennis on our way home to the States after 10 days in Ireland (and 10 days in Sweden). If you’re going I can recommend the Rowan Tree Hostel; very reasonable rates, within spitting distance of Cruises Bar (where I had some nice tunes with members of a band called Socks in the Frying Pan), and they have a great cartoon mural in the ground floor hallway of a trad session.

Ming

Thanks Ming, I’ll definitely consider that hotel.
If anyone wants to share rooms to take down the price…

It’s a hostel, Lorenzo. It’s great. I would go for the cheapest option, if there are beds left, which is to take a bed in one of the mixed dormitories. Great fun!

Ah, right, I usually have friends from around the world, and don’t travel much, so I’m not used to all that hotel/hostel thing

Not a great photo (I was still learning how to use the camera on my phone) but here’s a pic of that mural at the Rowan Tree Hostel I mentioned:

Ah yes, the former Abbey Tourist Hostel. Boy could I tell some stories about that place. Appears to have been tidied up quite a bit.

Rob

Second call. I’m actually going
The list of musicians is impressive!

Can’t say enought great things about the Rowan Tree hostel in Ennis. Wish I could be there!

Can’t go this year. Shame. :frowning:

Have never been. Would love to. Envy! Have a great time, Lorenzo, and keep us posted. I suppose you are flying direct to Ireland?

I going down with the lads from Glenavy, been a busy year, so really looking forward to the tunes !! See ye there Chiffers…

Brendan Mulholland

See you there Brendan

Yes Jem, a direct flight Rome-Dublin, and then we’ll rent a car. I’ll also stay a couple of days in Galway after the festival, I’ll try to have Sam Murray make a new headjoint for my antique Thomas Glen, wish me luck

Why bother with a car? Go by train and meet lovely and interesting people on the way.

Hi Patrice, if you’re out there …

Because the car costs 140 euros for 8 days, and in the mornings we’ll go around to visit Co. Clare, and mobility is a great thing

Wise choice, no point being stuck in Ennis which, to my eye, always seems strangely detached from the festival during the daytime.

Fair enough. I just like trains and the people on them.
