Here’s a web page:

Steve

Peter,

We might eventually meet, as I will do all I can to show up for the week. It’s the best irish music event I’ve ever been to, and Willie Week is now like a drug in my veins… I actually bought a Minidisc recorder having Willie Week in mind… I know that it’s very touristic, but you just have irish music everywhere from morning 'till morning… Anyway, is there a way to know how you look? There’s so many pipe players out there!

Thanks for the link, Steve.

Wow! What a program.

OK, now I need to craft a new mantra for myself:

I am not insanely jealous of those who can simply take a bus or a car or a bike or a ferry to Willie Week and absorb pure Irish music at the source…I can and will learn this beautiful music in the fetid, musically isolated swamps of Florida…

I am not bitter…Not me, no not me…Im not bitter that in one day at Willie Week more talented whistlers and fiddlers will be playing on one stage than I’m likely to ever see in my whole life…Sigh…how many frequent flier miles do I have anyway? That’s OK, I’m not bitter…

after all, they may have Paddy Glackin and Geraldine Cotter and three guys named Potts and fifty other fiddlers, whistlers and button players Ive never heard of but who probably kick the tar out anyone I’ve ever heard in person, but I’m not bitter, cause we’ve got…

we’ve got… uh,

we’ve got…uh, In-N-Out Burgers…yeah, we’ve got In-N-Out Burgers over here, and they don’t have that over there…yeah, and what would life be without an In-N-Out burger anyway, yeah and…wait, it this microphone still on???

covers a bit more than the link posted above.

When I first saw this picture I thought that you had taken it, Peter - I just saw that it wasn’t you… which was the reason I had orginally posted… whoops

Yes, I think that that is the one that made me think that the pictures were yours. Very nicely done - both Tony’s and your’s.

Not this year, but a bodhranai friend and I are planning to head to Willie Week next year. Already looking forward to it!

Peter,
I am going. Don’t quite know what to expect but I can’t wait to find out.
Any special stuff I should know? For sure I am bringing my tape recorder and plan to use it any chance I get.
I haven’t decided yet if I will take the whistle or flute workshop. I know I am bringing both with me.
I certainly hope to meet other C&Fers over there. Definitely have to meet you!

Otter

Otter, the only thing do to unsless you go camping in a wet field is organise accomodation. The place will be choc a bloc for the duration.

Yeah I’m going to be camping in a wet field, but at least I have a special arrangement with a B&B owner and for about 10EURO/day I can have breakfast and shower in the morning… Telling ya, provided showers in campings are a nightmare… Last year there was a pipe player in the field that decided to have a session with his friends in a giant tent at 3am. Fortunately, I could smell trouble and moved my tent away during the day. Well, lemme tell ya that the camping owner threw these guys out first thing in the morning… Ahhh Willie Week, so many memories already!

Done. I have a B&B in town on Knockliscrane.
I will be sharing a room with another “student”

AZ,
Although B&Bs are not that expensive, especially if you share a room, it looks like you have the best plan for the money.

From reading you,the Willie week sounds like it is going to be a ton of fun. Yeah!!

‘On Knockliscrane’ I know exactly what you are thinking. Postal adresses like that refer to the townland not to a street [of which there are only three here anyway].
First time I arrived in Miltown I found my bed was located 5 miles out of town. And I didn’t have transport then.

Knockliscrane is not too bad, if you have wheels. A two to three mile walk depending on the house you’re in, if you haven’t.

I’m camping in La hinche (I think I spelt that wrong, but anyway…) with a big group of family/ friends. I haven’t been for 10 years, every year it clashes with something - last year the Mozart festival in San Francisco, all 3 years before that the NFMY in London, etc, etc…
A special C&F session would be quite cool… maybe an afternoon rather than evening?

Peter,
I thought Knockliscrane was one of the three streets of the town.
Two to three miles walk…hummm

note to self: bring a pair of good hiking shoes!

from the look of the accomodation’s list, I definitely won’t be the only one staying around there.
I plan to do a lot of hitchiking…at least, my intruments can fit in a backpack
