Hey, I hope someone can give me some advice. My father and some of his friends are going to Ireland for a couple of weeks of a driving vacation in August and my dad unexpectedly invited me to join him (all expenses paid). So, I HAD to say yes, but because it’s so last-minute, I can’t get off work the whole time. So, I will be flying home in the middle of the trip.
They are flying in & out of Shannon airport, because we are staying mostly in the west. However, when I have to leave the caravan to get home, we will be up in the northern area of the Republic, up past Galway.
My question is: Should I fly into Dublin or Shannon airport? I need to meet the group in Shannon at the beginning, but I can fly in to Dublin earlier than them, stay for a day or two and then head over to Shannon to meet them.
What I’m worried about is the end part of the trip when I have to get back for work. Will it be easier & quicker for me to get to Dublin from the northwest area, or can I get to Shannon just as easily? The timing is going to be pretty tight, with me having to get back to either city and catch an afternoon flight home.
It’s just I’ve never been there so I’m not sure how fluid the bus or train system is. From guidebooks and maps, it looks like all roads lead to Dublin. I’m just worried about getting stuck somewhere and missing a plane…
