As we rightfully condemn Palestinian terrorists for their terrorist methods fighting against the occupation of their lands, we should note that even some of god’s chosen have tarnish on their halos as well. In this manichean age of good guys and bad guys, of black and white, of good or evil with no grey area, it is useful to develop a slightly more balanced perspective where ‘good guys’ can do terrible things in the name of security and whatever is holy.
Well it’s pretty much a universally known fact that human beings are by definition jerks, regardless of race, sex, religion, political bent, socio-economic background, or any of those other trivial differences we like to exaggerate.

Ah, but the potential!!!
I hope to never forget to notice the individual acts of care, commitment, and dedication that also abound in this world. There are times when that’s about all that keeps me going.
Exactly!
That is one of the reasons I enjoy the symphony so much. So many people, all combining their talent, cooperating as one to create something beautiful.
And the same species that puts it’s own into space and sends it’s machines to other worlds, is also the same that had to learn to use fire and invent the wheel.
So much potential.
Humans are capable of extremes in any direction.
Scary sometimes.

Well said livethe question! We have so much incredible potential when we use our frontal lobes more than our brain stem. ![]()
There is great kindness and compassion in the world, right alongside the cruelty and dishonesty. It’s a strange place.
Unfortunately, we don’t get much reporting of the good things people do. Somehow, the news seems to favor the negative. So much so, there’s the well known media mantra, “If it bleeds, it leads.”
Best wishes,
Jerry
It’s the negative press that reminds me that the revolution starts here. points to self
Yes, it’s confounding and galling, and there seems to be no end to the crap if not an increase of it. What’s the answer? Join the ranks? Not for me, thanks. Sure, I’m imperfect…but I like the hackneyed phrase, “Think globally, act locally”. This can be as simple a thing as just being kind.

Thanks for posting the link to Ellen Siegel’s piece. It brings both tears to my eyes and hope to my heart.

We also need to remember that is is not usually the citizens of a nation that make the decision to be the aggressors of others. More often than not it is the leaders of the nations that coerce us into supporting their ambitions of conquest. This is accomplished either through selective disemination of information or outright misinformation.
A good case in point would be Iraq. ![]()
