I dont know if this not allowed in the forum, but i am from Florida, US, and trying to find other celtic musicians. I live in Tallahassee, which has a small celtic scene, but will moving to the Central Florida soon, most likely Orlando or Ocala.
If any of you are from Florida, doesnt matter the area, chime in. The celtic scene here is pretty small, and i am always up for finding a new session somewhere.
I play guitar and zouk, and have started to take up the whistle. Its great fun, being a past Bohem flute player.
i’m in st augustine and jacksonville, and there’s nothing here either!
we have a traditional irish dance school here in st augustine. when various feisanna are held, there are music competitions as part of that, but no sessions. sometimes there is a ceili after the formal competition is over, but sometimes these are a flop if all the dancers are tired and go home early.
the only other remote possibility is The Fly’s Tye - an irish pub in jacksonville beach. sometimes they have musicians, sometimes not.
Welcome to the nightmare!!! If you move to Orlando, there is a session run by a very nice fiddler named Vickie…I think it happens every other Wednesday. I can send you her email address if you like.
There is a regular music house party thing (not a session, but only 'cause it doesnt happen in a pub) every 2nd Sunday in Palmetto, which is south of Tampa. There used to be a session at Grace O’Malley’s pub in St. Pete Beach every 4th Sunday, but its been dwindling of late and I dont know if it is still going on.
Looks like we are having a session in Tarpon Springs after the Dervish concert in March. Sunshinesdaughter is acquainted with one of the band members so we’ll see if we can get them to join us…
Not much help, I know, but as Loren will attest, there just aint much happenin’ here in Florida.

Kevin man, you have my utmost respect for keeping the faith in that ITM wasteland. BTW, you ever see Don any more? I talked to him a few days back and he says he’s gigging pretty solidly, but mostly on Mando and Guitar.

St Pete – well, Mary had a misunderstanding with Don and McEwen, so that kinda dwindled things. Last time I was there was a flautist and guitar player who knew lots of songs but few tunes…for tunes, Jill and I were the anchors. Yeah, I know. I do wish Mary all the best, though and I hope she can keep it going. Now Sarah and I pretty much just throw parties.
I have emailed with Don recently…yeah they are giggin a lot up at Tarpon, and we’ll be seeing them in March–Don’s booked at Bridies on the night Dervish is in town, so we’ll head over there and make some noise when they’re done. Ihavent been to McSwiggins much at all since Rob and Sandy left.
Jeez, there’s probably more sessions happening tonight in Boston than we’ll have in three or four months here.

Thanks for the good luck wishes - I did get a (great) job, but it doesn’t start for another two weeks, so I’m roughing it in the mean time. Dude, you wouldn’t believe how cold it is here right now…Can you say -10 below zero I soooo miss Florida right now - something I never thought I’d hear myself say.
Dervish is coming to florida?! When and where? I looked on their site, but didnt see anything for march. Fill me on the date and time if possible, i saw them once here in Tallahssee, they are great.
The latest info I have Dervish will be performing at the Tarpon Springs performing arts center on March 20!!! I’m not sure of the time…I think it starts at 8. I’ve heard they are also gonna be at Ft. Lauderdale earlier in March.
So come on down, and bring your instruments for the after-session.
