A few of us here in Sarasota, FL are planning a trip to Ft. Lauderdale in March for the Dervish concert, and I’m wondering if anyone knows of some music-friendly pubs that would be good candidates for a session after the concert.
Anyone familiar enough with Ft. Lauderdale to lend some suggestions?
I hope everyone is well and already having a great New Year!!!
I will be watching this thread with much interest, as Charlene and I leave for a long weekend in Ft Lauderdale this coming Thurs!! Good restaurant, local attraction etc suggestions much appreciated.
Just heard that Dervish has added Tarpon Springs to their schedule, so we don’t have to trek all the way out to Lauderdale after all. And that means we’ll all converge at Bridie’s afterwards, so its all good. Maybe this time the cops wont tail us when we leave the pub at 4:00 am.
Yeah, lots of fiddle…Irish, Cape Breton, French Canadian, some Scan tunes, and now I found a compilation of 1930’s blues fiddle tunes (including some Lonnie Johnson on fiddle before he became huge with blues guitar) and I’m torturing myself by listening over and over with the Amazing Slowdowner to try to get the feel of the blues…something completely different in feeling and style than Rambling Pitchfork, thats for sure! But now I have to stop with the blues this morning cause I have my first fiddle “gig” tonight playing for dancers at at Contra dance.
So anyway, I’m now a lurker 'cause, well, I dont whistle that much anymore.
Thanks, Tony!!! I’ve heard a lot about Eamonn and the occasional workshops that happen over there, but I never had actually gotten an address or number.
Dazed,
I haven’t been able to contact Eamonn in over a year. I heard he had gone back to Dublin at the time, and was trying to get back to the US. His phone number has changed (or disconnected) and his website is currently offline.
The last band I know he was in was Curfa and I didn’t see any news about them.
I did a name search on his sister Roisin Dillon and she came up as a member of Cherish The Ladies.
If I hear more about Eamonn or any ITM in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area I’ll post back here.
Rats! That just goes to show that when you live in Florida, you should promptly take advantage of lesson opportunities whenever they present themselves!
Thanks and yeah, keep me/us posted if you hear anything
