O'Riordan/Humphrey whistle comparison

I’m double posting with the Clips board because I’m sure this will be of special interest to many on the main board who may not notice otherwise:
(I suggested to Gary that I do this. He did not ask me to. I did get his permission, first, however. )

12/14/02 Special Edition: When I received Gary Humphrey’s tunes to post, I was immediately struck by the similarity in sound to the O’Riordans I own. I pulled them out to compare, and, in my opinion, there is a close resemblence to the sound of his prototype whistle head. I contacted Gary and pointed this out. He replied that he was trying for that sound. I’ve posted a couple of Foggy Dew Clips for comparison. The microphone, I think, makes a difference. Gary’s recording sounds more like my live playing than a recording. Anyway, check it out: Gary’s…O’Riordan wood tube…O’Riordan metal tube… O’Riordan w/ feadog tube.

Almost 70 views of this thread in a little over 24 hours, and not a single comment from anybody?
I expected at least one post expressing outrage that anyone would compare an unknown makers whistles to those of the legendary Pat O’Riordan!
I had this mental image of an angry lynch mob showing up at Tony’s house and stringing him up from the nearest tree for such outright blasphemy!

Wot, me worry?
Tony

Tony,
I’ve got one question: is he selling these and for how much. OK, that was two questions. I liked Gary’s very much. I like the sound of my Feadog very much but I get frustrated with the squeaks and honks and then I go back to my Gen. But to get that Feadog sound without the noise would be great! I didn’t think Gary’s sounded like the O’Riordans with the exception of the O’Riordan/Feadog which was very similar IMO.

I’m not quite ready to sell them just yet, but the prototype you heard in the tunes I submitted is the design that will be used when production begins.
I still don’t have all the tools necessary for a streamlined production process, but I’m working hard at rounding them up.
I don’t know how much time I’ll have to put into them after I get set up for maximum efficiency and quality, so I can’t say what the cost will be just yet… and I don’t want to post any commercial announcements until I OK it with Dale.
The idea behind posting the tunes was to hopefully get some feedback from people to let me know if I have something that sounds pleasing to more people’s ears than just my own.
Thanks for asking Mike, I was beginning to think maybe nobody was interested.
