I’m looking for a one-piece, non-tuneable Low C whistle. I’ve been looking at some makers’ websites but they’re all tuneable or more than one piece…
I don’t intend to spend much more than 150£, so please don’t give me names such as Burke (who is an awesome maker, but way too expensive for me…).
A Howard seems to fit with your requirements and price. They seem to go for somewhere in the $150-170 range. Or you could make your own based on Guido Gonzato’s plans…
I have an Overton like that e-bay item… and it’s a GREAT Whistle…
If I did’nt have one, I’d be placing a bid … I wonder I need two of these fine Instruments ??
I could make you a one piece non-tunable aluminium low C for £150. I am curious why you specifically want a one piece whistle, as tunable whistles are much preferred because they are more versatile.
I bought this one. It was advertised (originally) “as new” and “never played in”. When it arrived I about died. It was full of mold and gunk. I had problems breathing after playing it just for a few minutes. And it was covered in scratches. I tried to clean it but couldn’t get the mold/gunk out of the top part (since it’s non-tuneable it can’t be reached). Since it was not as advertised, I returned it.
It’s now back on ebay and some unlucky person has bid on it. It definitely needs an overhaul from Colin and tuning adjustment as well so if you factor those into the price plus shipping costs, I think it makes a lot more sense to buy a new one from Colin.
Always a disappointment when Ebay sellers behave this way.
A while back I bought a digital camera that was described as ‘unused due to lack of battery’. After winning the auction I took a look at the sellers feedback and noticed that he had bought the camera only a few weeks ago. He also bought a battery for the camera. I became really worried when I saw that soon afterwards he bought the same model camera again. One can only conclude that he bought the first camera, realized it did not work and tried to resell it as ‘untested’.
Based on this info I send him a note saying that I would not complete the deal since it was clear that his item description was not accurate.
For the person who bid on this whistle, based on Cunparis I would consider doing the same.
