The Armagh Pipers Club’s tutor, on eBay UK:

I have this book. As a tutor, it’s probably not the best but it has settings of the standard piping tunes.

Joe Kennedy D chanter:

Buy-it-now for $1,000 - that’s a good price. Joe’s waiting list is quite long these days.

IIRC Joe’s D chanters are “medium bore”, i.e. somewhere between narrow and wide bore.

Here is the very set.
I want it. It has such character.
Geoff Woof’s 26 year waiting list is no longer safe.

Who was making pipes in Canada in the 1980s? Chris Langan made a few practice sets and half sets.

I was wondering myself if it was a Chris Langan creation. This could be a decent set.
Was Neil O’Grady making pipes then? I’ve heard a few of his chanters lately and they sound pretty good too.

Tommy

Does not look like Chris’ work to me, certainly not the chanter or bellows, and I don’t remember him ever making a bass drone entirely out of brass.

I’ve seen one half set of Chris Langan’s making. It looked nothing like the set for sale. A few things I noted were that it had a straight bass drone slide section and the air-intake on the chanter was 5/8" instead of the usual 3/8".

I’ve been kind of watching that “irishpipemaker” guy.

When I first noticed him he was selling a set of obviously Pakistani Highland pipes, but was claiming to have made them.

I guess some people questioned him about it, so he began posting photos supposedly showing him making pipes, however the photos showed no such thing, only a few blocks of blonde wood sitting on a table. The pipes he was selling were black wood.

Oh, then he said that his pipes were made of local wood but then he “varnished them with blackwood” whatever that means.

Then he began listing obviously Pakistani-made uilleann pipes, and once again claimed to have made them.

Pathetic, isn’t he.

Jeez - some mug has bid on them.

Perhaps this thread should be another (the last?) sticky.

Mukade

I don’t think it should be a sticky. If it interests people it’ll stay on the first page. If not, it’ll pass on to obscurity.

Bigdavy is in the driving seat.

It will stay!

Dear all, what do you think,
is this http://cgi.ebay.com/David-Daye-Chanter-and-Uilleann-Half-Set-with-extras_W0QQitemZ260283092335QQihZ016QQcategoryZ16226QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
worth buying as a practice set for 10 months while my CJ Dixon’s half set is being made or is it absolute bulk?

the same question about this set:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Uilleann-Pipes-Practice-Set_W0QQitemZ290257220125QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290257220125&_trkparms=72%3A1121|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I have never played a Daye chanter, so I cannot help you with that question.

However I made the set listed on Ebay UK, and it works properly. Please PM me if you require further details.

Cheers,

Geoffrey ‘brand’ = Pakistani made.
