A couple months ago I put myself on patrick’s list for a cocus keyless in D and a blackwood keyless in Eb. I just wanted to hear your opinions and why you like his flutes so much. Hopefully, your thoughts will hold me over for the next 10-12 months!!
Spits, go over to the flute porn thread and you’ll see them!
As for the Olwell question . . . I think the unifying theory as to Why We Love Our Olwells is the way they play. I personally think that it’s Pat’s embouchure cut that’s the cat’s pajamas, or the bee’s knees, or the pig’s whiskers. His flutes are well-in-tune with themselves, easy to play, and easy to push. Or easy to play quietly.
I’m still waiting to get that keyless dogwood flute in D that I ordered from him, and a new head and barrel on my eight-key blackwood Williams. Should be around Xmas, he sez now. I know I’ll like 'em. I’ll be very interested to see how the Olwelliams Frankenflute will perform. BTW: Olwell doesn’t install lip plates, yet. Curiously, he never got around to learning how to do that although he’s been getting requests for it lately, so he says he needs to figure that out (talked to him yesterday). Meanwhile, I have to find a maker who won’t mind installing a lip plate on someone else’s instrument, and a mongrel one at that!
