How would you rate the Olwell Bamboo Flutes in looks, sound, and quality.
Post has many as you can.
Thanks!!! ![]()
About the same as the last time these things were reviewed , which seems like no time at all !!
Jeez Andrew, you got a sliver under your fingernail or something.
Sorry Mini, some people around here think pretty highly of themselves. I think you will find that the Olwell bamboo flutes are thought of pretty highly around here. They may even be the standard by witch all others are compared. The one I had was incredable and I think it is safe to say that you couldn`t go wrong in choosing one of his flutes. If you are new to the flute you might find his D to be quite a stretch as far as finger holes go but an Eb or an F would be easy. If you do a search you will find volumes of info on Olwells flutes, both bamboo and traditional. They are also beautiful to look at and smell great.
Tom
Hasnât Patrick stopped making them, now? Youâd have to get one used, if so.
I am sure that Olwell flutes of all kinds are wonderful .We read it here regularly , especially if we are interested enough to use the search facilities we are so kindly provided with !
I thiknk heâs about to make more.
Andrewâs about to make more posts, or Olwellâs about to make more bamboo flutes?

He usually cranks up his kiln around this time of year, at least thats how it worked last year. Easiest thing to do is give him a call.

Please donât swat newbies, old bean.
Indeed. Owners may have even more detailed observations to provide given ownership and playing over time. Bandwidth usage should be of little concern to any of us as far as that goes.
Well, here, I just got a D and an F about a week ago, so hereâs my opinion.
They are beautiful, and light.
I have no sense of smell, but I have read that they smell either good, or âburntâ, depends on the individual, I guess.
They are WONDERFULLY in tune!!!
Did I mention they are light? And Beautiful?
The highly praised F is not my favorite of the 2, since my hands are large and I can play the D just fine, thank you very much. I love the full, mellow sound of the D best.
Just how Patrick Olwell can work his magic with bamboo is beyond me, but I really love these 2 flutes. I have been playing my D almost exclusively, since Iâve been especially tired lately, and I donât have to put it together and then take it apart (laziness
)
So thatâs how I would review themâŚ

Best bang for the buck in the flute worldâŚtruly awesome.
As of a week ago Pat was taking orders.
Doc
By the way, welcome! ![]()
Of course, informing new users of the forum that a search function exists, and that it gives access to tons of valuable information, is quite helpful in its own wayâŚ
That being said, I own three Olwell bamboo flutes, in F, Eb and D. I find them all to be wonderfully sounding instruments with excellent tuning. I also find them all more difficult to play than a regular conical wooden D flute.

Sure, but letâs tell em nicely and in a welcoming way.
Ditto Doc. Theyâre the #$%@! Probably the best $80 I ever spent.
In fact, I had to stop playing my F for a while because it was TOO easy. Darn, guess I need a D! ![]()
Mmmm . . . the low C Olwell bamboos are the BOMB.
I assume BOMB is what Cathy meant when she wrote, â#$%@.â
