Olwell Flutes

I guess this man (P. Olwell) can’t make anything wrong. It would be interesting to know how Hammy’s practise flutes compare with Olwell bamboos. Sort of a comparition between the cheapie flutes from the great master makers.

Alright, give up that F then Mary

Loren

Hold it there, pardner…

Low C, huh??
That the kind you need to play with the pinky ? (If not, I’m SOLD!)

Mary

No, you play with the regular ol’ 6 you play the D with.

Only it’s bigger.

So basically, I’m just saying mine’s bigger.

Stuart

Heck! He is out of town until the 22nd. :imp:

Tom

Well, the tax man hath cometh and taketh away in this household.
But I reckon I can still get together enough for another bamboo flute…

And I even have April 22 off!

Mary

Why is that?

They seem to require a more precise embouchure and I therefore find it harder to play in the second octave than on the conical flutes I’ve tried.

Hmm! That’s interesting. I think they’re easier to toot that a regular flute.

Less expressive, of course, but to my mouth, they seem more forgiving.

Yikes! Maybe Jens is right.

Stuart

Ditto on the “easier to toot” for me, too (which is why I’ve had to swear off mine except for the casual fun fling). It’s like hurtling down an Italian mountainside in a little Alfa Romeo or something.

But I also find my F very expressive – granted, in an F kind of way, but very expressive nonetheless. (then again, certain F-things are always expressive when used … ummm, appropriately! )

Yes. I dont have an Olwell
but I do have an F bansuri.
Very very responsive and always in tune!
