Hello everyone!!
I’m new to C&F and I have some questions for all of you out there…
I have been playing flute for quite awhile. I purchased a four keyed M&E polymer two years ago and was told that it sounds nice, but I should really get a wooden flute. I have been doing a TON of research, asking many people and came with the conclusion to buy a keyless Copley so I can have in within a year or so and get on Olwell’s list for a keyed…what do you think? I keep hearing raves about Olwell, but do I really want to wait six years (actually it’s probably up to ten now!!!) And are Copley’s really nice? I would really like to try one out, I don’t know of anyone who has one around here. I played a Chris Wilkes on Sunday…those are really nice too. I am just so confused!
Jayses, Mary and Joseph, would someone please help me.
I haven’t played one of Dave’s keyed flutes, and I can’t really say more good things than I already have about his keyless flutes, so I don’t have much to add to this thread other than a question that might help us both out:
Has anyone here recently received a keyed Olwell, or know someone who has that could tell us how long they actually had to wait?
Loren
I don’t think you’ll be waiting “a year or so” for a keyless Copley.
I got on Dave’s list in October and he said I’d probably be tooting by February (and that he thought that was conservative )
He’s a wonderful fellow give him a call.
Here’s a link to his website:

Dave also offers a Demo CD so you can torture yourself while you wait
It features both his blackwood and rosewood flutes.
Have fun,
Doc
Getting a keyless Copley now and getting on the waiting list for a keyed Olwell sounds like a fine idea. Yes, keyless Copleys are great (haven’t tried a keyed one): Very well in tune, great sound, and they’re very easy and forgiving to play.
Cheers,
Jens
Much thanks for the info and advise. Have any of you ever tried a Brian Byrne flute? My teacher Jimmy Noonan from Boston has recommended him as well, but I haven’t heard much about Brian…
