Any web designing types out there explain how you can get your website to appear on web searches??? It’s pipes related, honest…
Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan,

Stick something like this between your and tags.

Once that is done go into Google or whatever search engine you want and go to the specific page/catagory you want the site listed in. Then click the add URL link on that page.

Hope that helps

Patrick.

Another important item which seems to escape a lot of web authors is the tag in the section. This is the name that will appear in visitors’ bookmarks.

Alan, put in that stuff (meta tags) that Patrick offered, then post a link here and we will all go visit it. You’ll get some activity, and by extension, the search engine robots will find it all by themselves.

Stick in a bunch of links to other sites as well.

Alan,

Most all of the engines I’ve seen/used also have a tab (usually near the bottom that will allow you to manualy submit your address for the next crawl. They update about every month or so. Have a look and see if you can find it on the ones you’d like to list with. For example:

http://www.google.com/addurl.html

http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request

Here is what I used when I read up on it a few years ago. Naomi’s Fancy should come up #1 on just about any search engine.

Naomi's Fancy

Thanks a lot!! My head spins. I don’t speak that language. I wish I could go back to bed… I like the term ‘web author’. Mines more like a crayon drawn garage sale sign. Author indeed!

It’ll make sense eventually.

Thanks again

Alan

That’s probably more like my standard!

The way to get good search engine ratings is to be something worth searching for. The main way Google works this out is by comparing the number of links to a particular page: for example, with two pages containing the word ‘bagpipe’, the higher rated one will be the one with more people linking to it. Of course, it’s more complicated than that, but in general the best approach is to simply have content worth linking to. Get your site listed in all the places that people start surfing from, like Uilleann Obsession and Bob Dunsire’s pages.

Don’t fret over-much about it: simply make sure you have good content and that people can surf to it. Once that happens, Google will be close behind.

The other basic point is to make sure your site is readable to the spider. Don’t do your links in Javascript, Java, or with GIF buttons (without an ALT text, anyway). If the spider can’t find a link, it won’t follow it, and it won’t get indexed. Try viewing your site with a text only browser - if it makes sense in this, you’re on the right lines.

Cheers,
Calum

Be sure to put in tags like “naked, porn, nude, sex” to show up in those “special” searches.

Create a really good, relevant site. Fill it with good text (graphics look cool, but the search engines can’t grok them). Update it often. Let other people know how good it is, so they will create links from their sites to yours. Then Google will find you and you will be rich and famous, women will swoon at your mere sight, etc.
