My past experiences with Generation whistles have lead me to generally dislike them, and made me wonder why so many great players thought so highly of them.
I have heard of the mythical “good ones” from several people, but I had completely given up on ever getting my hands on one of these rare beasts.
I have recently found myself in need of an Eb whistle, and I ordered a Generation from The Whistle Shop earlier this week.
It arrived yesterday evening, and I am very happy to announce that I am now the proud owner of one of the mythical “good ones”.
I did fill the sub-airway cavity with Sticky Tack, and it did require a little filing, but it only required a minimal ammount of effort to clean up the rough edges.
The whistle is a little jewel, and I will still be playing it years down the road when it’s all worn down and unattractive.
Now I suppose I’ll have to continue the quest until I have “good ones” in every available key.
After that, I think I’ll try to catch myself a unicorn… maybe they’re not just a myth either! ![]()
You know, I hear Bigfoot is a pretty mean whistle player…He prefers playing fast jigs on a Susato low C. ![]()
Congrats on your find. I have a couple of “good” generations, and a couple that are basically worthless. I think the old, beat-up looking ones are the funnest to make beautiful sounds on.

I’m happy for you raindog, however the ultimate find in my oppinion would be one that required no tweaking what-so-ever as even the most dog eared gen can be made playable with a little assistence.Better luck next time.
