Where to even start with this, eh? I’ve acquired a decent set of low end whistles and recently added to the family with a set of Generation nickel whistles. Everybody complains that they have quality control problems, but mine seem like beauties, even w/out tweaking. Easy octave switches, good breathiness (I LIKE IT THAT WAY DAMMIT), no squeaks, good tuning in both octaves for the most part. Did I:
A. Get lucky?
B. Get royally hooked up by Gen. Larson (who’s damn good anyway, by the way) of the whistleshop who picked out a perfect set for me?
or
C. Never have a clue what made a whistle a good whistle anyway?
Hey, if sounds good to you - it is a good whistle!
Richard.
finally we have snow!
The quality has gone up dramatically in the last few months. I have no idea why. In the bad old days of a few months ago, you couldn’t get a decent bell note. You’d blow as softly as possible and no matter how little air went into the fipple, it’d jump to the higher octave. It was maddening. Of course, it got much better after tweaking.
How can we tell the quality of your Generation if you don’t specify your birth year
This matches my own experience with Generations quite closely.
Within the last year or so quality control must have improved quite dramatically.

Maybe they’ve been lurking…
Maybe they now are sending you the ones we get in Canada! I have been buying Generations by the bucket load for over 20 years and have rarely found any problems. Yes some are better than others, always best to try before you buy. I recommend them to all my students and have done for years.
Send them all to me! If I send any back, you’ll know that those were the bad ones.
Round these here parts, ya can’t try 'em in the store. They have signs and everything. They blame it on the health department, but I think they just dont want to deal with it.
Yeah, that happened to me too whenever I would go to a store, but when I went to Lark they let me use their electronic tuner and I played about 75 different whistles. Although, I really had to wash out my mouth when I got home. Next time I’ll bring the rubbing alcohol.
