North of Detroit: Whistle teacher needed

Can someone help Laurie?

Hello, Mr Wisely,

I have been visiting Chiff & Fipple for 3 years now. I have recently acquired a set of Oriordan C-D soprano whistles in aluminum and a Copeland Low D in Sterling Silver.

I live in Michigan, about an hour north of Detroit and need a teacher.

I play the Orchestra Flute and find that the Irish whistle is a wonderful change. I can’t leave my orchestra flute out or it tarnishes. The whistles can stay out in the air and be picked up numerous times per day and played. The whistles are lovely.

Glen Shultz lived only about an hour from me but I read that he has passed away. Do you know of anyone else in Michigan that can direct me to someone who gives lessons? If so, please send me their email address or phone number.

Thank you

Laurie

I’ll check the thread and let Laurie know if anyone knows of anyone.

Depends on exactly what she means by an hour north of Detroit. The local Comhaltas branch is meeting up in Berkley these days. That’s about a half hour north of Detroit – but there are all sorts of places I’d consider an hour north of Detroit that are an hour or more away from there.

Anyway, that’s probably her best bet. Everyone I know of north of Detroit would be associated with them.

You can still write to Glenn’s old address: thnwzl@aol.com
His daughter Bree reads e-mails sent there and will respond. Actually, Bree is the reason Glenn started making whistles in the first place. She’s a great player (flute too) and might give lessons herself. If not, she’ll probably know someone who does.

Hi Laurie- I live in Hartland and last year drove to the Finnish Center on Thursdays for lessons (and loved it). This year, I’m finding that Berkley is just too far to go as I volunteer for Girl and Boy Scouts on Thursdays and since their meetings are over at 8 or 8:30 I’d get to Berkley just as things would be shutting down. If you are anywhere near me, I’d love to get together. I’m by no means an experienced whistle player, but I used to teach classical flute (in high school) and maybe we could help each other. If others see this and would like to join in something in the Livingston County are, please reply also.

In Joy,

Robin
