Finding a whistle teacher is harder than it seems.
I don’t know of an instructor here abouts, but there is a whistle workshop at the Potomac Celtic festival in Leesburg virginia on the 14th and 15th of June. Cherish the Ladies will also be appearing as well as other great groups. I will be there on the 14th myself. Good luck with an instructor.

Not quite Annapolis or Severna Park, but the House of Musical Traditions (Takoma Park) website lists three teachers for whistle

In additioin, Karen Ashbrook in Silver Spring will give whistle lessons.
These locations are not too far for you if you can hook up with a good teacher. I know from experience that Karen Ashbrook is a wonderful teacher for hammered dulcimer.

Wendy Morrison, Chiffboard contributor, is in the greater DC area. Not exactly in the Annapolis area, but is probably within 30-45 minutes of you. I’ve taken a few lessons from her and benefitted greatly from them. Her contact info is at: www.klezmusic.com
Last I knew Karen Ashbrook only gives whistle lessons to kids.
There is a whistle workshop lined up for the 15 of June at “Lady of the Creek” in Gettysburg, PA. http://www.ladyofthecreek.com/index.htm Wendy will be teaching that workshop and I am really upset that I can’t go because of a family wedding that weekend. If you can make that workshop you will definitely learn alot. Wendy is great. I took the workshop last fall and am still working on things that we learned there.
One more thing. Bring your WhOA and Money with you! Wendy brings along a huge assortment of whistles and books to sell.

I am hoping to sell some of my Own Personal Whistles at the LOC workshop, so bring the big bucks. You would not believe what it is costing me to replace the screens on my windows. Can you believe the insurance company said that wasn’t covered?!!

Actually, I am wanting to take lessons in the Arlington / DC area. I just don’t know who to choose yet. I can take the metro to the House of Musical Traditions. Money isn’t really a concern. I have heard Brooke Parkhurst’s ability to play on her website. However, the rest of the tutors don’t have any examples that I would like to hear.

Is there an interest arranging a future one day tin-whistle workshop in the DC? (I have plans and will miss the workshop in Leesburg)
I tried to arrange lessons with Wendy last year but my work schedule since has made it impossible.

The teaching ability of a whistler is a separate issue from their playing ability, although clearly there is a relationship. See comments from previous workshop attendees at http://www.klezmusic.com/10-26-02.html

However, I am not easily accessible via Metro, as is HMT. I’m a half hour north of Takoma Park. Brooke is an excellent whistler and a patient teacher.
